LTL vs FTL
LTL consolidates many shippers on one trailer and prices by freight class, weight and accessorials. FTL buys the trailer at a truck rate. The switch is math: when pallet count, linear feet or a high class makes LTL more expensive than a 53-foot, stop consolidating. There is no universal pallet cutoff — run both quotes.
Six GMA pallets are 12 linear feet in a standard van. Many LTL tariffs start volume rules in that neighborhood. Twelve pallets is often cheaper as FTL on a long lane. Price both.
