What is VGM?

Verified Gross Mass — the certified total weight of a packed container (cargo + packing + dunnage + container tare) required under SOLAS before loading on a vessel. No VGM, no load.

Method 1 vs Method 2?

Method 1 weighs the whole packed container on certified equipment. Method 2 (this calculator) sums cargo, packing materials and the tare printed on the container's door — permitted where the shipper is certified.
