Why do linear feet matter?

Most LTL carriers apply volume or capacity rules when a shipment exceeds a threshold — commonly 10–12 linear feet of trailer — switching pricing from class-based to cubic capacity. Crossing it unknowingly causes big adjustment fees.

How is it calculated?

Pallets per row = trailer width ÷ pallet width (usually 2). Linear feet = rows × pallet length ÷ 12. Non-stackable single-file freight uses one pallet per row.
