Bill of lading
A bill of lading is the carrier’s receipt for the freight, the contract of carriage, and on ocean moves often a document of title. For LTL the dangerous fields are class, NMFC item, handling-unit count, weight and dimensions. The class calculator is an estimate for the BOL — not a substitute for the item lookup. Carriers reweigh.
Piece count on the BOL should match handling units tendered (pallets), not eaches. A six-pallet shipment is 6 pieces unless you contracted otherwise.
